RideIntel is a research publication. We don't claim to have installed, driven with or tested the products we cover. Unless a post says otherwise, every recommendation comes from the structured research described below, and we name our sources.
1. Fitment comes first
Before a product is compared on anything else, it has to fit the vehicle the page is about. We check the manufacturer's fitment chart for the exact model years, generation, bed length and cab style, and note the traps that cause returns: factory rail systems, bed-mounted storage boxes, multi-function tailgates, bed liners and hitch class limits. If we can't confirm fitment from the manufacturer, the product doesn't make the list.
2. Specs from the source
Dimensions, materials, load ratings and warranty terms come from manufacturer pages, installation manuals and current product listings. Where sources disagree, we go with the manufacturer and say so.
3. Owner feedback, read for patterns
We read retailer reviews and long-running owner forums for each model, looking for repeated reports: leaks at the bulkhead, clamps loosening, latches failing in cold weather, covers that won't clear a toolbox. One angry review means little. The same complaint from many owners of the same truck means a lot.
4. Independence
We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links, at no extra cost to you. Commission rates never decide a ranking, no brand pays for placement, and we call out real weaknesses in the products we recommend.
5. If we ever get hands-on
If we buy, install or measure something ourselves, the post will say exactly what we did. If a post doesn't say that, it is research-based, and we won't imply otherwise.
6. Updates
Trucks get refreshed, products get discontinued, fitment charts change. We revisit guides to keep model years, prices and availability current.
What we don't do
- Accept free products in exchange for coverage
- Publish sponsored content dressed up as editorial
- Recommend a product whose fitment we couldn't confirm
- Claim testing we didn't do
