Two things decide which cover fits a current Silverado 1500: which of the three boxes you have, and whether your truck has the six-position Multi-Flex tailgate. A third trap catches buyers of certain model years. Chevy sold old-body trucks alongside the new generation, and those take the previous generation's covers. Everything below is matched to the 2019 and newer (T1) Silverado 1500.

- Old-body trucks: the 2019 Silverado 1500 LD and 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD use the 2014-2018 body and bed. They need 2014-2018 covers, not the ones below.
- Multi-Flex tailgate: many covers don't clear it. Look for listings that say "works with Multi-Flex" (or MultiPro, GMC's version).
- Cover sizing: several cover makers list the short box as 5'8" rather than GM's 5'10". It is the same bed.

Best Overall: BAKFlip MX4 TS
On the Silverado we recommend the TS version of the MX4 specifically. Retailer listings for the MX4 TS cover the 2019-2026 Silverado and Sierra 1500 with or without the Multi-Flex/MultiPro tailgate, which takes the biggest Silverado fitment question off the table. The TS also adds T-slot rails on top of the cover for mounting crossbars or a low rack.
Under the rails it is the same third-generation MX4: polymer-reinforced aluminum panels, a 400 lb distributed rating, an auto-latch that locks when you close the last panel, and a clamp-on install with no drilling. BAK covers it for 5 years.
Pros
- Listed for trucks with or without Multi-Flex
- T-slot rails for racks
- 400 lb distributed rating
- 5-year warranty
Cons
- The priciest folding option here
- Folded stack blocks part of the rear glass
Best for Multi-Flex Owners on a Budget: UnderCover Ultra Flex
The Ultra Flex is one of the few hard folding covers built around GM's multi-function tailgates, and RealTruck lists it for the 2019-2025 Silverado and Sierra 1500 working with the MultiPro/Flex tailgate. It costs noticeably less than the MX4 TS, folds forward in panels, and installs with clamps.
Pros
- Built for Multi-Flex and MultiPro tailgates
- Hard folding security below MX4 pricing
- Clamp-on install
Cons
- Shorter warranty than BAK
- Confirm your box length on the listing; Multi-Flex versions are box-specific
Best Roll-Up: TruXedo TruXport
For full bed access, the TruXport rolls up against the bulkhead and holds tension with its spring-loaded SureTension system. It is a solid choice for Silverados without the Multi-Flex tailgate. If you have Multi-Flex, read the listing's tailgate notes before ordering. Five-year warranty.
Pros
- Opens the entire box
- Tension stays consistent across temperatures
- Under-30-minute clamp install
Cons
- Soft vinyl, limited security
- Tailgate compatibility varies by listing
Best Soft Folding: Extang Trifecta 2.0
The Trifecta 2.0 is a well-sealed soft tri-fold with tool-free clamps, so it comes off quickly when you need the whole bed. Extang offers a 5-year warranty. As with the TruXport, confirm Multi-Flex compatibility on the specific listing.
Pros
- Triple-fin seals
- Tool-free removal
- 5-year warranty
Cons
- Not a security cover
- Folded sections cover the front of the box
Best Budget: Tyger Auto T3
Tyger lists the T3 for the 2019 and newer Silverado and Sierra 1500 with the 6'7" standard box. It is the lowest-priced cover we recommend, with 24 oz marine-grade vinyl, an aluminum frame and a 5-year warranty for US buyers. If you have a short or long box, check Tyger's listings for your size before buying.
Pros
- Lowest price here
- Clear 2019+ standard box fitment
- 5-year US warranty
Cons
- Basic seals
- Fewer box-length and tailgate options than the premium brands
Best Retractable: Retrax PowertraxONE MX
A powered retractable opens and closes with a button and locks partway open. It is the most expensive way to cover a Silverado bed. Retrax's limited lifetime warranty becomes prorated after three years. Check the listing for your box length and tailgate.
Pros
- Push-button operation
- Locks at intermediate positions
Cons
- Highest price
- Canister uses front-of-box space
How to Choose a Tonneau Cover for Your Silverado 1500
Rule out an old-body truck
Check the badge and the body. A 2019 Silverado 1500 LD or a 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD is a carryover of the 2014-2018 truck. If yours is one of them, shop 2014-2018 covers.
Identify your box
| Box | GM length | Common on |
|---|---|---|
| Short Box | 5'10" | Crew Cab |
| Standard Box | 6'7" | Double Cab, Crew Cab, Regular Cab |
| Long Box | 8'2" | Regular Cab |
Cover makers sometimes label the short box 5'8". If a listing and your truck disagree by an inch or two, that is usually why. Measure to be sure with our bed measuring guide.
Check for Multi-Flex
The Multi-Flex tailgate has a fold-down inner gate. If you have it, prioritize covers listed as Multi-Flex compatible, like the MX4 TS and Ultra Flex. A cover that is not built for it can block the inner gate from folding or leave a gap at the seal.
Installation Notes
All of these covers clamp to the bed rails without drilling. On Multi-Flex trucks, test every tailgate position after installation before driving. A cover that seems fine with the gate closed can catch the inner gate when it folds. Our no-drill install guide walks through the full process.
FAQ
Do 2019 and 2024 Silverado tonneau covers interchange?
Yes for the T1 trucks. The 2022 refresh did not change the bed, so 2019+ covers carry through the current truck. The exceptions are the old-body 2019 LD and 2022 LTD.
Will a Silverado cover fit a Sierra?
The 2019+ Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 share beds, and most covers are sold for both. The differences are the tailgate (Multi-Flex versus MultiPro) and GMC's optional CarbonPro bed. See our Sierra 1500 guide.
Do I lose the Multi-Flex steps with a tonneau cover?
Not with a compatible cover. Covers built for Multi-Flex leave clearance for all the tailgate positions.
Will a cover fit with a drop-in bed liner?
Over-the-rail drop-in liners can block clamps. Under-rail liners and spray-in liners usually don't. Check the cover's listing for liner notes.
Short box measures 69.9 inches. Which cover size?
That is GM's 5'10" short box, which some cover makers call 5'8". Order the short box version for the 2019+ truck.
