The Sierra 1500 shares its bed with the Silverado, but two GMC-specific options make cover shopping harder: the six-function MultiPro tailgate and the optional CarbonPro carbon-fiber composite bed. Each one rules out a lot of covers. This guide covers only the 2019 and newer Sierra 1500 and flags which picks work with which options.

  • CarbonPro bed: the composite bed needs CarbonPro-specific clamps. Covers for the steel bed may not clamp correctly.
  • MultiPro tailgate: many covers don't clear the inner gate. Look for "works with MultiPro" in the listing.
  • Old-body trucks: the 2019 Sierra 1500 Limited and 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited use the 2014-2018 bed and need 2014-2018 covers.
  • Cover sizing: the short box is often listed as 5'8" by cover makers.

Best Overall: BAKFlip MX4 TS

For a Sierra with the MultiPro tailgate, the MX4 TS is the safest premium choice: retailer listings cover the 2019-2026 Silverado and Sierra 1500 with or without MultiPro. You get the third-generation MX4's polymer-reinforced aluminum panels, auto-latch, 400 lb distributed rating and 5-year warranty, plus T-slot rails on top for crossbars or a low rack.

Pros

  • Listed with or without MultiPro
  • T-slot rails on top
  • 400 lb distributed rating
  • 5-year warranty

Cons

  • Typically over $1,000
  • Confirm CarbonPro compatibility separately

MultiPro on a Tighter Budget: UnderCover Ultra Flex

RealTruck lists the Ultra Flex for the 2019-2025 Sierra and Silverado 1500 working with the MultiPro/Flex tailgate. It is a hard folding cover that costs well below the MX4 TS while still locking the bed. Check that the listing matches your box length.

Pros

  • Designed around GM's multi-function tailgates
  • Hard folding security
  • Lower price than BAK

Cons

  • Shorter warranty than BAK
  • Box-specific versions

Best for CarbonPro Beds: BAKFlip MX4 (CarbonPro version)

The CarbonPro bed's composite rails need different clamps than the steel bed. BAK sells MX4 versions listed for the 2019+ Sierra 1500 with the CarbonPro bed, which makes it one of the more straightforward premium options for Denali and AT4 owners who ordered it. Specs match the standard MX4: aluminum panels, auto-latch, 400 lb distributed and a 5-year warranty.

Pros

  • CarbonPro-specific mounting
  • Same MX4 build and warranty

Cons

  • Narrower set of listings; double-check box length
  • Premium price

Best Soft Folding: Extang Trifecta 2.0

For a steel-bed Sierra without MultiPro, the Trifecta 2.0 is a well-sealed, tool-free soft tri-fold with a 5-year warranty. It folds back in sections and comes off in minutes. If you have MultiPro or CarbonPro, read the listing's fitment notes carefully or choose a pick above.

Pros

  • Triple-fin seals
  • Fast removal
  • 5-year warranty

Cons

  • Not a security cover
  • Option compatibility varies by listing

Best Budget: Tyger Auto T3

Tyger lists the T3 for the 2019 and newer Sierra and Silverado 1500 with the 6'7" standard box. It is the cheapest cover here, with a 5-year US warranty, and a reasonable choice for a steel-bed Sierra without MultiPro.

Pros

  • Lowest price
  • 5-year US warranty

Cons

  • Not for CarbonPro or MultiPro trucks unless the listing says so
  • Basic seals

How to Choose a Tonneau Cover for Your Sierra 1500

Which options does your truck have?

Your Sierra hasShop for
Steel bed, standard tailgateAny 2019+ Sierra cover for your box length
MultiPro tailgateCovers listed as MultiPro compatible (MX4 TS, Ultra Flex)
CarbonPro bedCovers with CarbonPro-specific clamps
BothCovers listing both, then confirm with the maker

CarbonPro is easy to spot: the bed floor and walls are a dark composite, not painted steel. MultiPro has a smaller inner gate in the main tailgate.

Rule out a Limited

A 2019 or 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited is the previous generation. It takes 2014-2018 covers.

Measure the box

GM lists 5'10", 6'7" and 8'2" boxes, and cover makers often label the short box 5'8". Our bed measuring guide shows how to measure and match.

Installation Notes

Clamp-on covers install in about an hour with hand tools. On MultiPro trucks, cycle the tailgate through every position after install. On CarbonPro beds, use only the clamps supplied for CarbonPro and follow the torque values in the instructions. Composite rails do not respond to over-tightening the way steel does. See our no-drill install guide.

FAQ

Are Sierra and Silverado tonneau covers the same?

For 2019+ trucks the bed dimensions match, and most covers are sold for both. GMC's MultiPro tailgate and CarbonPro bed are what change the answer. See the Silverado guide for Chevy-specific notes.

Does the AT4 or Denali need a different cover?

Only if it has the CarbonPro bed or MultiPro tailgate. Trim itself doesn't change the bed.

Can a tonneau cover damage a CarbonPro bed?

Clamps designed for steel rails can concentrate force on the composite. Use CarbonPro-specific hardware and the specified torque.

Will I still be able to use the MultiPro step?

With a MultiPro-compatible cover, yes. Those covers leave clearance for the tailgate's positions.

Do 2019 and 2025 Sierra covers interchange?

Yes for the T1 trucks, other than the old-body 2019 and 2022 Limited models.
